It has been over two years since I first came to Barcelona, which is a scary thought! I think I was more excited to see the boys than they were to see me, scratch that, I KNOW I was more excited to see them than they were to see me. It's probably safe to say that most kids are the similar in that, you'll their undivided love and attention until something new and more exciting comes along. Not because they are bad kids, because...well duh, its something new and more exciting. I am definitely no longer new or exciting.

I am currently sitting in my former Barcelona home where my first big adventure began. If you're wondering how I got here, you probably aren't the only one. I have wound up back in one of my (if not the number one) favourite cities in the world after a lot of dreaming and undecided-ness turned into a relatively quick decision to head back across oceans.
WARNING this is a photo heavy post.
Monique and I wanted to meet up before I came back to Spain and after throwing out suggestions such as Germany and Morocco we finally decided on...Amsterdam! It was so good to see each other again, and even though it rained for the entire time we were there you couldn't wipe the smiles off our faces (as you can see from the photos). We had an awesome time together, falling in love with this magical city. Wow, this was certainly a long time ago now. The truth is that I started to write this and when I came back to finish it the world wide web had gobbled it up, so I have had to start from scratch.
My rough idea was to head over to Greece, Italy and Morocco after Turkey but I was easily persuaded by Monique to head to Albania and Montenegro instead as she had such an amazing time there. I love that I was able to experience a part of the world that most people either don't know exists or wouldn't be able to find on a map (myself being one of these people before I went there). This is what traveling is all about! Cappadocia was the best kind of whirlwind there is. Even though I think I slept the least there than I have at any other place, it really topped off an awesome two weeks travelling around Turkey.
As usual this post is extremely delayed (story of my blogging life), but I have literally had the best month travelling about, nothing could wipe the smiles off my face! I spent my last two weeks in Turkey travelling and had the most amazing time! My first week of travelling was with my host family and we went to Datça. The drive from Istanbul to Datça is somewhere around 12 hours! Because of this we stayed in Foça (near Izmir) on our first night so that we only had to drive eight hours or so that first day. It sounds like a lot but compare that to the 12 hour night buses I have done and eight hours in an actual car was heaven! Our week in Datça was awesome! We stayed in a Hotel which was another luxury for me, yay to no 12 bed dorms and shared showers for once! We ate out every night so I was trying lots of delicious Turkish food, actually I ate the best Köfte (Turkish Meatballs) while I was here. Datça is famous for its almonds so the Köfte was coated in almonds, HEAVEN! All the beaches we went to there were so clean and blue, and we drove to a different beach every day, they all had restaurants on or by the water so we alternated between sitting and relaxing at the restaurant and swimming or jumping into the water from the pontoons that all the beaches seemed to have. Another day we went out on a boat for the day, and this week was also my 23rd Birthday so basically I had the best birthday sitting by the beach on the Turkish Coast. Not a bad memory to take home. |
