I have been in Turkey now for four weeks and it is safe to say that I am still discovering new things all the time. It has definitely been the country to take me the most out of my comfort zone as it so different to home, but also very different to the other countries in Europe that I have visited. So I guess I should start by explaining how I ended up here and what I am doing.

Now that I am nice and settled here in Istanbul I have the time to sit down and finish this blog post. When I left Granada I went to Portugal for a little holiday before I came to Istanbul to Au pair for a month, and although my Portugal adventure didn't necessarily start off on the right foot (I missed my bus from Seville to Faro) I really had an awesome time once I got there!
Hola Amigos! With only 4 weeks left here in Granada I am embarrassed to say that this is my first blog post about my time here. I arrived here at the end of March and things have been non stop ever since. I chose Carlos and Yasmina to be my new host family while I was staying in Ireland, and I have definitely made the right decision. I didn't know what to expect because my first Au Pair family was amazing and I still miss them all the time, but I am happy to say that being here with Carlos, Yasmina, Pablo and Marta has been just as amazing. The week I arrived was Semana Santa (Easter) so for this week I basically did no "work" at all. Also their previous Au Pair Ellora (who is also from New Zealand and has a blog full of great travel photos and food posts which you can find here) was here for 10 days so I had my own personal tour guide and companion to teach me about everything from the bus schedule to the best places to get tapas. Bonjour, today is all about France! I am going to make this quick because, despite what the evidence may suggest I actually do want to catch you all up and tell you what I am currently up to in beautiful Spain (the kick in the butt came last week when my mum emailed me asking what I had been up to, and I didn't know if she actually knew I was back in Spain or not, sorry mum!) I was lucky enough to be able to plan my French trip with Marta and Lluis' current Au Pair Marion. She is French, and was a travel agent in Paris (Perfect!). She helped me settle on an itinerary of: Paris, Pontorson, Tours, Bordeaux and Toulouse. I jumped on an overnight bus from Frankfurt to Paris (these overnight buses are so painful, but they are super cheap so I just keep on catching them). We arrived at 5:30am which freaked me out a little bit as we were an hour early. Its times like these when I am super grateful to have upgraded from my trusty Nokia before I left NZ to an IPhone because let me tell you, nothing is more handy then being able to look up which Metro to catch at 5:30am in a foreign country! I finished up in Ireland and flew straight from Dublin to Berlin. When I first set out on my travels, Germany wasn't on the top of my list but then I went to the German Markets while I was in England, and also everyone who I spoke to said that Berlin was amazing so I thought hey, why not! I was a little bit nervous because I had so much trouble going through customs in England and people were telling me they were stricter in Germany. But, just like Spain I sailed right through which was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. |
